Globally Connected
Due to its strong reputation, Smith School of Business attracts top students from across Canada and around the world. Smith was the first trans-Atlantic partner for many double degree partners, was one of the first schools in North America to offer a Master of Management degree and remains one of few schools offering graduate-level exchange opportunities.
The school maintains international exchange partnerships with over 100 respected business schools in 37 countries and welcomes more than 300 international exchange students annually. Every year, well over 650 of our students travel to international destinations to participate in an international exchange or to complete their Global Business Projects.
Goodes Hall
Goodes Hall, the home of Smith School of Business, combines an exquisitely restored 45,000 square foot 120-year-old Victorian schoolhouse with 143,000 square feet of bold new design and structure. The building is named in honour of the family of Mel Goodes, a Commerce '57 alumnus and former Chairman & CEO of Warner-Lambert worldwide.
The Concept
Goodes Hall was conceived, designed and constructed not just as a building, but also as a community. The guiding principle from the outset was to create a space that would enable maximum interaction between faculty, staff and students in all of Smith School of Business' programs.
The Design
Design features include a dramatic central "hive" of the building that uses an atrium to bridge the streetscape exterior of the old schoolhouse to the new section of the building. This expansive glass atrium area houses a lounge and the main Goodes Hall reception area, and is used as a central space to post news and hold events. The classrooms and lecture halls themselves were designed for optimal sightlines and communication.
Kingston, ON
Queen’s University has a beautiful, vibrant setting in the heart of Kingston, Ontario. It’s walkable and bikeable to great amenities, sports facilities, restaurants, music venues, theatres, and a waterfront that is a famous sailing centre. Kingston offers the best of both worlds: a dynamic, small city that’s close to Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and major U.S. centres.
With more restaurant offerings per capita than almost any other city in Canada, even the most discerning of foodies will find some new favourites here. In addition to plenty of pubs and nightclubs, the Kingston region boasts some of the finest craft brewers and wine producers in the country.
Take in a play or enjoy a concert at one of Kingston’s performing arts facilities. Be inspired in the many art galleries, artisan shops and studio tours available throughout the city. Kingston is also home to dozens of annual festivals and events every year.
The majority of Queen’s students live within a 15 minute walk to campus, eliminating the time-consuming commutes associated with universities in larger urban centres. This closeness creates a strong sense of community amongst our students that is truly unique.
