Fees & Financing

Any significant investment – buying a home, purchasing a car, or investing in your education – requires having all the necessary information to ensure you are making an informed decision. Indeed, Smith's Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence program is a significant investment of your time and money. We are pleased to provide you a detailed overview of what exactly you are paying for and the various ways you can finance your studies.

Understanding The Program Costs

The program fee is all-inclusive. It covers tuition, books, learning materials, coaching, the Student Assistance Levy (SAL), as well as accommodations and meals during on-site sessions.

Please keep in mind:

The MMAI program is not eligible for OSAP funding. We understand the importance of clear financial information, and we're sharing this to avoid any future confusion or frustration. Please take this into consideration while planning your finances for the program.

Travel Costs

Travel costs for on-site sessions are not included in the program fee. Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and meeting any travel requirements

On-site Session Costs

Accommodation is included for both the opening and second on-site sessions, which will take place in Kingston. Some meals for on-site sessions are included in program fees.

  • International students may be required to purchase the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) if they cannot provide evidence of equivalent coverage.
  • A person is classified as a domestic student if they have Canadian citizenship, landed immigrant status, permanent resident status or dual Canadian citizenship.
  • Fees are subject to final approval of Queen’s Board of Trustees and Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Participants who pay all or part of the program fees personally are eligible to claim a tuition tax credit on the tuition portion of the fees. For more information, ask a professional income tax advisor to give you an assessment of the impact of your tuition on your personal tax situation.

You and/or your spouse may be eligible to make tax-free withdrawals from your RRSP's to help fund your education. This program is considered full-time and is eligible for withdrawals under the LLP. Please contact your income tax advisor for details.

Scholarships

Smith’s MMAI program is recognized by the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence for delivering a curriculum that equips graduates with the skills and competencies sought by industry. Students enrolled in the program with strong academic standing in their previous studies, typically an A– GPA or higher, may be eligible to apply for Vector Institute Scholarships valued at $17,500.

Smith School of Business is pleased to offer Dean's Entrance Scholarships to applicants on the basis of outstanding academic and professional achievements.

$10,000 scholarship awarded annually to 1 student entering the MMAI program. Given to an equity-deserving Canadian candidate who self-identifies as Black and demonstrates academic excellence, community involvement, and proven leadership experience. To be eligible, candidates must have either Canadian citizenship or Canadian Permanent Residency status. This scholarship is merit-based and will be awarded on the basis of an applicant’s essay submission, as well as the overall strength of their application profile. Selection will be made by a Smith EDII Scholarship Committee.

The Ian R. Friendly Women in AI Graduate Scholarship will award two $10,000 scholarships annually to female students in the Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) program at Smith School of Business. Recipients will be selected based on their academic excellence, with preference given to Canadian and U.S. residents. This scholarship aims to support and encourage women to excel in AI, helping to address gender equity in this innovative field. The admission committee will consider all enrolled students, and the scholarship will be awarded before the start of the program.

Recipients will be asked to participate in a panel discussion where they join alumni and share their journeys and insights, encouraging more women to dive into the exciting world of AI. This discussion not only highlights the importance of women in AI but also offers invaluable support and resources to help women succeed.
