Profile
Full Bio
Kate received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies and French and her Master of Science in Management from Queen's University. She completed her PhD at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
Kate's research focuses on experiences of inclusion and exclusion across different organizational and educational settings, including work that looked at the gender implications of modesty in negotiation outcomes. Kate has also studied deviance inside and outside of the workplace, and her current research centres on academic integrity where Kate and her co-author are examining how a sense of belongingness (or a lack thereof) contributes to students’ perceptions of integrity and their behaviours in that regard.
Kate’s deep commitment to inclusion plays a part in her other involvement across the Queen’s community and beyond. Kate has worked as a dispute resolution advisor for the Office of the University Ombudsman. She works with student governments on campus to train student government heads and orientation leaders, encouraging a values-based approach when working with their peers. Kate is a co-founder of a teaching community at Smith School of Business that focuses on inclusive, learner-centred pedagogy. Kate has worked with and consulted for non-profit organizations to develop human resource practices that honour their organizational values. She is frequently asked to moderate and appear on panels to share her expertise and experience.
