Kingston, Ont. – Smith School of Business has added a new double-degree option for students studying in its Master of International Business (MIB) program.

Beginning in 2025, students will have the option to study at Fundação Getulio Vargas Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo (FGV EAESP), one of the top business schools in Brazil. The double degree builds on the current partnership between Smith and FGV EAESP, which includes international exchange as well as membership in the Partnership in International Management network and the Council on Business & Society.

“We are thrilled to add FGV EAESP to the Smith MIB program’s growing list of double-degree offerings. These partnerships play a key role in preparing students for international business careers, granting them increased exposure and experience in a different region of the world,” says Angela James, Director of Smith’s Centre for International Management.

The new partnership represents a first for both schools; It is the MIB’s first double degree in South America, and FGV EAESP’s first in Canada.

Students from both schools will complete the core course of each program and have the opportunity to round out their studies with electives. They will also develop their research skills through a FGV EAESP faculty-supervised thesis and complete the MIB global business project focused on solving a real-world business challenge.

“We are delighted to expand our collaboration with Smith School of Business through this new double-degree option. This partnership not only enhances our students’ global exposure and academic experience but also strengthens FGV EAESP’s commitment to providing world-class education. By combining the strengths of both institutions, we are preparing our students to excel in the international business arena and become leaders in a complex, interconnected world. FGV EAESP’s reputation for excellence in education and research, coupled with Smith’s innovative approach, creates a unique and transformative learning opportunity for our students,” says Professor Luis Pereira, Director of FGV EAESP’s MIM Program.

Students from both schools will benefit from a truly cross-cultural learning experience and extended networks and career resources that can be leveraged to reach their professional goals. Those who successfully complete the program receive a degree from each institution.
