Seshan Ananda

As the Director of Student Affairs (Social), my role is to create opportunities for FTMBA students to bond outside the classroom. This involves coordinating events that are either funded or subsidized by the program, as well as those funded by students.

My main responsibilities include:

  • Communicating event details to the cohort through social media and in-person channels
  • Coordinating event logistics with the MBA office
  • Proposing event ideas for approval by the SEC

I wanted to join the SEC to take a more active role in strengthening our student community. In an intensive program like the FTMBA, it can be easy to focus solely on academics and lose sight of the diverse experiences and perspectives that each student brings. I believe that fostering meaningful connections within our cohort is just as valuable as the learning that takes place in the classroom. Serving on the SEC will not only allow me to contribute to creating a more engaging and inclusive student experience but also help me further develop my leadership skills in the process.

Many of the major events I have planned for the year are based on those outlined by previous SEC teams including Culture Night, a Boat Cruise, and trips to Ottawa, Toronto, or Montreal. On a smaller scale, I would like to establish weekly or biweekly outings consisting of two parts: An alcohol-free dinner or a social outing at a bar.

This format would allow students to choose which part of the event they’d like to attend based on their preferences. Additionally, I plan to organize social events throughout Kingston to explore local activities such as bowling, mini-golf, and more. Above all, I want to hear from students about what events excite them the most, ensuring that our socials cater to the interests of the cohort.
