I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...
Smith School of Business stands out for academic excellence, a diverse and progressive student body, and a strong commitment to its graduates. What really appealed to me was the vibrant, close-knit community – a hallmark of both Queen’s University and Smith specifically.
As a resident of Kingston, it was important to contribute back to my community, an impact that is not only facilitated by Smith, but encouraged. The 12-month program was particularly inviting, and I found myself drawn to the curriculum as it incorporated real-world cases and simulations, embracing the notion of “learning by doing.”
While my undergraduate degree was in Microbiology, I pursued an MBA to improve healthcare delivery. For years, I envisioned myself becoming a family physician, but in my final year of studies, I discovered a passion for biotechnology and biopharmaceutical communications. This realization led me to reassess my career path and explore how I could make a broader impact in healthcare.
Now that I am here, I can confidently say there is no other place I would rather be. If I could give myself advice a year ago, it would be to stay open to new opportunities and not be so set in my thinking. Smith fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive environment, and my peers challenge me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace me for who I am.
For prospective applicants considering an MBA, Smith is a wonderful choice. My best piece of advice would be to connect with alumni and current students – the network is incredibly insightful and engaging, and we would be happy to help you determine if Smith is the right fit for you and your professional goals.
