Alumni giving helps the students of today succeed both at Smith and in their future careers. Meet Daniel Wang, Comm’26, in the video below, and learn how he is benefitting from alumni support — and how he’s giving back too.
Daniel is the recipient of two awards: The Commerce 1992 Entrance Award and The Ian & Carol Friendly Leadership Admission Award.
The Commerce 1992 Entrance Award: This award was established as an admission award by the Commerce Class of 1992 in celebration of their 15th reunion in 2007 and, as a result of continued fundraising efforts by the class, increased to a renewable award in 2021. It is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and involvement in extracurricular activities or community service to students entering their first year of the Commerce program. The award is renewable for three subsequent years provided a satisfactory academic average is maintained each year and financial need remains evident.
The Ian & Carol Friendly Leadership Admission Award: This award was established in April 2008 by Carol and Ian Friendly, BCom’83. It is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic excellence to students entering first year of the Commerce program. Preference is granted in the following order of priority: (1) to students who have demonstrated student leadership experience in their high school and (2) to students from the City of Ottawa.
