Full Bio

Christy Zhou Koval received her Ph.D. in Management and Organizations from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and her H.B.A. in Business Administration and M.Sc. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Western University. Her primary research focuses on diversity and inclusion in the workplace,  stereotyping and bias, and intergroup relations. She also conducts research on motivation and self-regulation.

Dr. Koval's work has been published in leading management and social psychology journals, such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Leadership Quarterly, Research in Organizational Behavior, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology,  Psychological Science, Social Psychological and Personality Science, and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. She has won the Dorothy Harlow Best Paper Award and was a runner-up for the Saroj Parasuraman Outstanding Publication Award at the Academy of Management. She was also a finalist for the AMJ Best Paper Award in 2023. Her research has been covered extensively in news and media outlets, such as CNN, Bloomberg, Forbes, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Harvard Business Review, Scientific American, and Huffington Post. Dr. Koval currently sits on the editorial review board for the Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of Business and Psychology.

Prior to joining the Smith Business School, Dr. Koval was a faculty member of the Management department at Michigan State University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
