Smith partners with ICTC’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program to help employers grow their businesses and secure digital internships for students.
Providing Valuable Experience in IT and Digital Roles
Employers who are hiring students for digital internships may be eligible for ICTC’s WIL Digital program, which offers a wage subsidy of up to $7,000. Smith School of Business and Queen’s University have secured funding for 500 positions to support its corporate partners in hiring students.
The program is available for employers that hire post-secondary students and provide them with valuable hands-on experience in IT and digital roles across all industries, including social media, e-commerce, CRM, IT, digital transformation, data analytics, machine learning, and more.
What is the ICTC WIL Digital Program?
- Employers with full-time or part-time internship opportunities involving technology or digital transformation can apply for funding.
- Funding of up to $5,000 is available for each internship. Up to $7,000 in funding is available if the student falls within one of the following under-represented groups: Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Indigenous students, recent immigrants, students with disabilities, and first-year students.
- Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Employers can apply for the WIL Digital subsidy up until the start date of the student internship.

Eligibility Criteria
Organizations
- Are a registered business or not-for-profit in Canada
- Must be hiring for a net new position.
Students
- Must be enrolled in a program at a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution during the work placement period and have domestic status.
- All disciplines of study, including business, are eligible.
How to Apply
- Post your WIL Digital Internship opportunity using the Smith ‘Post a Job’ form. You will find an editable template job description here to use.
- Your job posting will be shared with Smith students and you will receive applications as they come in for your review.
- Once an employer has identified the student they would like to hire, the employer completes and submits Employer Application Form.
- Upon submission of the form, the student will receive an automated email with a link to the employer’s application and will be prompted to complete and submit a Student Application Form.
- After the student information is submitted, the employer will receive an email notification that the application has been submitted.
- ICTC will alert employers of their approval status within 5-10 business days.
- Successful organizations must sign a contract with ICTC.
